Mommy Long Legs, a terrifying character of Poppy Playtime, is the central parasite and threat of the 2nd edition. Its behaviour portrays it as a psychological villain. In the beginning, she appeared as an amicable assistant, but later she was recognised as the main antagonist of the game.
She makes the player confront different challenges and wants him to fail. The player needs to slaughter her to cast her away. The history of her being a young orphan girl adds intensity and gloom to the main storyline.
Who is Mommy Long Legs?
Mommy Long Legs is the central character of the game Poppy Playtime which appeared in chapter 2. At first, she pretends to be a helping hand; however, as the game proceeds, she starts appearing as the evildoer. She gives various challenges to the player, and if the player fails, she attacks him. At last, the player has to get rid of her by killing her.
This character was motivated by a bereft girl named “Marie Payne” who was a part of a trial at Playtime Co. in January 1991. Mommy Long Legs was a bit aggressive towards the faculty and staff; however, her gentle gesture towards orphans allowed the company to introduce a toy out of her to the request.

Appearance of Mommy Long Legs
The body appearance of Mommy Long Legs is a bit creepy yet interesting. She is a tall, spider-like, pink coloured creature of plastic who can stretch her long, flexible limbs to hundreds of feet. Her stead is so creepy, which adds to the horror and also helps her to move easily on huge walls and roofs.
Her large, green, circular eyes have three eyelashes on each eye, staring deeply at the player. Her head is elliptically shaped. She has a side ponytail tied with a blue colored hair band. Her dress is pink, with a sweetheart bodice that covers the upper and lower parts of her body.
She’s wearing pink gloves and pink shoes with blue cuffed socks, which reminds me of her old toy design, the doll named “Betty Spaghetty”.She normally has a smile on her face, which seems friendly but is actually the foreshadowing of imminent danger. Overall, she has everything that can confuse the player into getting aware of her being sinister.

Chapter 1: A Tight Squeeze
It did not appear in the 1st chapter. Huggy Wuggy was the main character. Maybe the developers didn’t think about Mommy Long Legs to be a part of Poppy Playtime Chapter 1.
At the start of this chapter, she appears as a gentle, warm, and welcoming lady. But as the game proceeds, the player finds out that it’s a trap. She’s the main antagonist of this chapter.
The player liberates Poppy from the display case, and as he proceeds towards the train station, she abducts Poppy, urging the player to play different games to obtain the train code. She’s the hostess of the game station.

Musical Memory
In this challenge, the player has to remember the lights and tones in a sequence and repeat them. It is played with Bunzo Bunny. If the player forgets the sequence or delays, Bunzo Bunny captures the player, resulting in a game over, and the player has to restart the game. If the player wins, he gets the first piece of train code.
Whack-a-Huggy:
In this challenge, the player has to play against Mini Huggies. This game was like “Whac-a-Mole,” where the player had to beat the mini huggies as they appeared from the holes.
If he couldn’t beat any mini huggies, they would get out of the hole and attack him, which could be deadly. The game gets faster and faster gradually. If the player wins, he gets the second piece of train code.
Statues:
This challenge is played against PJ Pug-a-Pillar. It is like the game “Red light, Green light” as the one played in the 1st season of “Squid Game”. The player has to move forward on the green light, and he has to stop at the red light.
Mommy Long Legs plays a rig against the player in this game. The game doesn’t have a finish line, and the player has to keep playing forever. When the player suspects the rig played by her, he escapes the game to save himself. That’s where the chasing part starts.
She teases the player, scares him, betrays him, and tries to kill him, especially in the third game, when the player is winning. She gets frustrated and breaks the rules to make him fail. When the player foresees her motive, she starts to chase him. This is considered the most intense and memorable part of the game.
Chapter 3: Deep Sleep
In this chapter, she doesn’t have a direct role. The main character is CatNap. However, several truths about her were revealed here.
- Real Identity: Mommy Long Legs was a girl named “Marie Payne” who belonged to an orphanage. She was used for experiment 1222.
- Relation with CatNap: Marie (Mommy Long Legs) was subjected to nightmares because of the “Red Smoke” of CatNap. This shows a connection between the two characters.
Physically, she did not appear in this chapter.
Chapter 4: Safe Haven
In this chapter, “Yarnaby” and “Doey” are the central characters, and Mommy Long Legs doesn’t have a Physical role. It did not appear in this chapter. However, some more truths about her may have been revealed in this chapter also. But she did not play any role.
Backstory of Mommy Long Legs
In the 2nd and 3rd editions, there are some clues that indicate that Mommy was one of the victims of the experiments performed at Playtime Co. The experiment was known as “The Prototype”. This was an unethical experiment in which humans were turned into toys. The company was performing these experiments to replace human employees with toys because it was facing financial downfall.
When the prototype pulls her, she shouts, “He’ll make me part of him!”. This reaction shows that she was scared of the prototype. She was forced to become a part of the experiment.
After she had become this spider-like creature, she loved Baby Long Legs so much. But unfortunately, he happens to get in a road accident and ends up killing himself. She gets psychotic, kills Daddy Long Legs, and eats him up. After that, she had to stay alone in that abandoned factory.

Initial Behaviour
Initially, Mommy Long Legs is quite sweet and collegial. She showed motherly love and was very gentle. She seemed to be helping the player, but that was only to distract him from her actual motive.
Menacing Personality
When the player speculates about her being a wrongdoer and breaks the game rules, she starts getting mad as the player is not working according to her expectations. After this, her menacing personality starts appearing as she becomes a tyrant.
Manipulative nature
She tries to manipulate the player. She wants to regulate the actions of the player as she desires. For this, she even kidnaps Poppy to emotionally blackmail the player.

She loves to play games. She makes the player play different games, and with each game, the level of difficulty keeps increasing. She plays the games according to her own rules. The games are also fatal.

Mommy Long Legs doesn’t like to fail. She wants to control the player and make him do everything she wants. She is a victory lover, and if she fails, she becomes disastrous.

It may be suspected in the game that she’s also very emotional. She is grieved by what has happened to her at the Playtime Co. She wants the person responsible to get punished for doing her wrong. She thinks that the player is responsible for everything.

Breakdown of Childhood Impeccability
Mommy Long Legs was a toy. But her childish activities show the downfall of her innocence. Playtime Co. had cruelly led human lives to such oppressive trials. She was one of the targets of that inhuman experiment.
Captivity vs Freedom
The player wants to free himself from the factory, while Mommy wants to have control over everything. This is the main reason for the conflict between the player and Mommy in the game.
Consequences of the Past
Her aggression is actually a consequence of past experience. She’s still mad at Playtime Co. for doing such an evil thing. As a result, she became cruel herself.
Death of Mommy Long Legs
The death scene of Mommy Long Legs is included in the final stages of the game. It was a very painful moment. This scene initiates after the third game played between Mommy and the player “Statues” when the player escapes from the game and Mommy starts chasing him. This chase goes from different parts of the factory. Mommy tries to capture the player using her long, flexible legs, but in vain.
During the chase, the player makes Mommy come to an industrial grinder from a trumpet. An industrial grinder is where the sacks of useless toys are ground. Mommy is behind the player. The player accommodates himself in such a way that when Mommy tries to slaughter him in intense aggression, the player turns the grinder ON, and Mommy’s legs get stuck in the grinder.
When Mommy gets stuck in the gears of the grinder, a painful scene appears. Her shrieks echo in the whole factory, and the sound of the grinder also adds to the horror. She stays in agony for some time, then her leftovers fall on the ground, and silence prevails all over. She finally dies.
Conclusion
At the start of the game, Mommy Long Legs seems more likely to be gentle than oppressive and also assists the player. But during the challenges, the player suspects the fishiness and escapes. Mommy chases him and ends up killing herself.
She was aristocratic and tyrannical because of her past. She seemed to love babies, as she was also an orphan. But the suppression she faced made her pathetic. The evil always has to come to an end, so finally, the player succeeds in slaughtering her.
